DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson field hockey team will look to end the regular season on a high note as they face NorPac East foe Longwood on Saturday at Belk Turf Field. The Wildcats will honor their three seniors prior to the 1 p.m. match.
GK Mary Clay, GK Christa Goeke and MF Liz Luckey will be recognized for their accomplishments throughout their four years at Davidson. Luckey has been a key part of Davidson's midfield as a four-year starter. Goeke ranks third all-time at Davidson in minutes played (3050) and saves (325). Clay provided valuable depth at the goalkeeper position throughout her career.
Live stats from the match will be available.
Scouting the Wildcats: Davidson is 5-11, 1-4 NorPac East after defeating Appalachian State, 5-2 for their first conference win of the season. Juniors Clare Perry and Jennie Mostellar led the offensive attack. Perry now leads the team in scoring with 10 points (3 goals, 4 assists). Freshman Annie Evans also scored in the game to earn her second NorPac East Rookie of the Week award. A Wildcats' player has now won the award two weeks in a row, as Finley Amato won it for the second time this season the previous week after scoring against Radford. Brit Donaldson earned the honor earlier this month. Davidson has claimed five of the nine awards issued this season. In the eight-team NorPac, the 'Cats rank fourth in the conference with 1.63 goals per game.
Scouting the Lancers: Longwood is 8-8 overall, 3-1 NorPac East and enters coming off a week in which they defeated Radford, 4-3 in overtime and fell to Towson, 1-2. All four of Longwood's NorPac East games have been decided by just one goal. They defeated Davidson (3-2) earlier in the season, fell to Radford on the road (1-2 in overtime), and earned overtime wins over Appalachian State (3-2) and Radford (4-3) at home. Longwood is even with Davidson with 1.63 goals per game. Julia Hernandez leads the team in scoring with 13 points (6 goals, 1 assist).
The Series: The 'Cats hold a 9-6-1 advantage all-time, but Longwood won the first meeting earlier this season, 3-2. A pair of mid-game goals from Longwood's Julia Hernandez were the difference. Junior Courtney Tobe and Amato both tallied goals for Davidson.
Up Next: The 'Cats will head west for the NorPac Tournament, hosted this year by Stanford.
