DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson junior guard Stephen Curry has been named the Southern Conference Player of the Week for his performance in two Wildcat conference wins last week, the league announced today.
It is the fifth time this season he has won the award, which is voted on by the conference's sports information directors, tying the record he set during the 2007-08 season. He has earned the honor 13 times in his career.
Curry helped the Wildcats to wins over Elon (83-68) and Georgia Southern (89-68) by averaging 33.5 points and 4.5 assists and connecting on 46 percent of his field goal attempts.
He scored a game-high 39 points in Davidson's victory over Elon, marking the 23rd time in his career he has scored at least 30 points. He followed up that performance with a game-high 28 points at Georgia Southern.
Curry leads the nation with 29.1 points per game and leads the SoCon in assists (6.5 apg) and steals (3.0 spg). He is the only player in Division I to be ranked in the top-10 nationally in all three categories.
The Wildcats, who are 14-3 and 7-0 in the SoCon, are back in action Wednesday when they host Furman in Belk Arena at 7 p.m.
