Box Score
DAVIDSON, N.C.— The Davidson baseball team made it two straight with a 4-2 win in the first of a two-game series at Wilson Field on Sunday afternoon to improve to 5-8 on the year.
The 'Cats (5-8) jumped out to an early lead, scoring three runs in the bottom of the first, that proved to be enough.
Thomas Middour picked up his second win of the season, after holding Yale to just two runs on four hits in 7 1/3 innings of work. Brandon Josselyn took the loss for the Bulldogs (2-4), allowing three runs on five hits in 5 2/3.
Center fielder Hugh Eden and catcher Tommy Piacenza each went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead the Wildcats, while second baseman Danny Weiss (1-for-4) drove in a pair of runs.
Eden led things off for the 'Cats with a single up the middle, and the Wildcats benefited from a pair of hit batsmen to load the bases. Left fielder Chase Fitzpatrick and first baseman Jay Honeycutt each reached for Weiss, whose double up the middle scored a pair of runs to give Davidson an early 2-0 lead. Catcher Tommy Piacenza kept things going for the 'Cats, plating Honeycutt with a single into center field.
With Middour getting the job done on the mound, Davidson added an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth. Third baseman Matt Ray hit a one-out single to left and scored as Eden got his second hit of the night, a double into left.
Yale's only scoring came in the top of the third, on a two-run home run from left fielder Andrew Kolmar. Stefan Schropp (single) also scored on the play.
The two team's will play the final game of the weekend's series at 4 p.m. tomorrow at Wilson Field.
