Ranked 'Cats Score Another Win in M. Tennis, 6-1

DAVIDSON, N.C. – In the midst of six matches in an 11-day span, the No. 75 Davidson men's tennis team continued to roll along with its 11th win of the season by earning a 6-1 decision over visiting UNC Greensboro in Southern Conference action on Thursday at Covington Tennis Courts.
The Wildcats, who earned their first-ever ranking in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) poll on Monday, Mar. 24, ran their record to 11-4 overall and conference mark to 4-1. UNCG dropped to 2-13 overall and 1-4 in league action.
Despite seeing their streak of taking the doubles point come to an end at four matches, the Wildcats took care of business in single action by sweeping all six positions for the second straight match to secure the five-point win.
Senior Flaviu Simihaian (Nasaud, Romania) pushed his overall singles mark to 8-6, 3-2 in league action, with his third win in a row at No. 1.
Junior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) ran his singles win streak to six by taking a 6-1, 6-3 victory over William John at No. 5. Myers sits at a team-best 13-2 and remained unbeaten in league matches at 5-0.
Winning by the same identical scores of 6-3, 6-4 was sophomore Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and freshman Walker Lyons (Wallingford, Pa.) in their matches at No. 2 and 3. Lyons is tied for second with nine wins in singles action during his freshman campaign.
After Noble and Lyons earned wins, sophomore Sam Burns (Banner Elk, N.C.) halted his two-match losing streak with a straight-set win over Yaroslav Litus at No. 4 singles.
And finally for the 'Cats, scoring his third straight win was freshman Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.)with a hard fought 6-7, 7-4, 10-8 victory at No. 6.
With the six singles wins, Davidson as a team is now 56-35 overall in singles play, including 19-10 in Southern Conference play.
Davidson takes on its cross-county rival Charlotte in its next match. The Wildcats head to Charlotte on Saturday, Mar. 29 for a 2 p.m. match.
