An Atlantic 10 postseason berth is on the line as the Davidson field hockey team enters Friday's regular season finale with Lock Haven, set for 7 p.m. at Carol Grotnes Belk Turf Field.
The Wildcats need a few things to happen in order to qualify for the conference's four-team tournament, beginning with earning a win over the Bald Eagles. Davidson also needs league leader Saint Joseph's to defeat La Salle on Friday. If both of those results occur, it would force a three-way tie between Davidson, La Salle and Saint Louis at 2-4 in the standings. Then it would come down to tiebreakers, with goal differential between the tied teams against common opponents being the deciding factor.
It all boils down to this: Davidson needs to beat Lock Haven by four or more goals to get the nod.
LATEST ON THE 'CATS
• Davidson is 9-9 overall and 1-4 in the A10 after a 1-0 loss at Saint Louis last Sunday afternoon.
• Paired with last year's 10-win season, the Wildcats have put together back-to-back campaigns with at least nine wins for the first time since 2011 (11 wins) and 2012 (9).
• A victory would give Davidson consecutive seasons with double-digit victories for the first time since 2010 (14 wins) and 2011 (11).
• Senior back Matilda Collins and sophomore forward Lourdes Wolf have combined for 21 of the Wildcats' 39 goals.
• Collins is tied for second in the A10 with a team-best 11 goals, while Wolf has scored 10.
• It's the first time Davidson has had two double-digit scorers since 2011, when Finley Amato and Christine Rua scored 14 and 12, respectively.
• Collins leads the way with 25 points, which is tied for third in the league.
• Freshmen Ava Perkins and Ise Adams have totaled seven and six assists, respectively.
• Last Friday's 6-0 win over Mercyhurst gave the Wildcats their sixth shutout of the season, their most since also posting six in 2015.
SCOUTING THE BALD EAGLES
• Lock Haven is 5-11 overall and 0-5 in the A10.
• Most notably in league play, the Bald Eagles have lost tight games to La Salle (2-1 in overtime) and Saint Louis (3-2 after a shootout).
• Maddie Friend and Melanie Beall have scored 11 goals apiece.
• Friend leads the way with 30 points, also chipping in with eight assists.
• Davidson has won the last two meetings with Lock Haven, including 5-1 on the road last season.
