
Curry Earns Second Straight Player of the Week Honor; Third of Campaign

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- For the second consecutive week, Stephen Curry of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week as announced by the league office Monday morning.
A 6-3 shooting guard from Charlotte, N.C., Curry averaged 29.0 points leading the Wildcats to wins over Wofford (78-65 / Jan. 30 ) and at Chattanooga (78-71 / Feb. 2). The sophomore drilled 10 three-pointers while averaging 4.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists per outing.
Against the Terriers, Curry scored 20 of his game-high 34 points after intermission to go along with six buckets from downtown. He followed his eighth career 30-point performance with 24 points at UTC Saturday.
For the 2007-08 campaign, the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year and nation's fifth leading scorer is averaging 24.4 points and 4.6 rebounds per outing, while shooting 47.4 percent overall and connecting on 87-of-212 (41.0 percent) from downtown.
Along with ranking among national leaders in scoring, Curry ranks fourth in three-point field goals per game (4.1), sixth in three-pointers made and 26th in free-throw percentage (86.9 percent).
Curry has been named SoCon Player of the Week six times in his brief career.
Louis Graham of Georgia Southern shared the weekly honor with Curry for the week ending Feb. 4 after averaging 26.0.
As a club, Davidson sits at 15-6 overall and 13-0 in the Southern Conference. The Wildcats have won 11 consecutive and 23 straight league regular season games dating back to last season. They will put their current streaks on the line in a 7 p.m. televised (MASN) contest with the Elon Phoenix Wednesday at John M. Belk Arena.
