A Night With the ‘Cats to Air on ESPNU Oct. 17

DAVIDSON, N.C. – A Night with the 'Cats, Davidson's kickoff to the men and women's basketball 2008-09 seasons, will be televised on ESPNU Friday, Oct. 17, live from Belk Arena.
The evening will begin with the Davidson volleyball game against UNC Greensboro, which starts at 5:30 p.m. A Night with the 'Cats will begin immediatly following the match with a musical performance by both the men and women's basketball teams, followed by on-court basketball activities with the men's team and finishing with basketball activities with the women's team.
ESPNU will present extensive whip-around coverage of several Midnight Madness events, including those at Davidson, Kansas, Georgetown, Gonzaga and Indiana, which will be the five primary men's basketball programs highlighted. ESPNU will televise four hours of coverage, expanding 30 minutes from last season and showcasing more schools.
Several of ESPN's top men's college basketball analysts, such as Jay Bilas, Fran Fraschilla, Bill Raftery, Stephen Bardo and Steve Lavin, will be on hand at each of the sites, providing practice coverage, analysis, and courtside interviews with the head coach and key players from each team. Bilas will be at Davidson with commentator Gary Williams.
Through ESPNU's Campus Connection, students will contribute to the Midnight Madness coverage with reaction and perspective from their respective institutions, including Maryland, the birthplace of Midnight Madness, Kentucky, North Carolina and more.
Complementing on-site coverage, ESPNU signature anchor Lowell Galindo will be joined in studio by college basketball analyst Adrian Branch and ESPN.com senior writer Andy Katz, who will preview the season and respond to viewer e-mails and comments. In addition, the show will feature interviews with UNLV head coach Lon Kruger, Siena head coach Fran McCaffrey and hall of fame Tennessee Lady Vols head coach Pat Summitt, plus “Katz Corners” with Andy Katz talking to several coaches about the upcoming season. Some of the schools will include UCLA, Pittsburgh, Wake Forest, Wisconsin, Alabama, Notre Dame, Baylor and Miami.
ESPNU Video-on-Demand will also offer coverage of Midnight Madness with four 20-minute segments featuring Georgetown, Gonzaga, Kansas and Davidson.
Davidson returns three starters and 11 lettermen, including four of its top six scorers, from the 2007-08 team that advanced to the Midwest Regional Final and finished the season ranked ninth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll.
