M. Tennis Competes at Georgia Tech Invitational over Weekend

ATLANTA, Ga. — The Davidson men's tennis team sent three players to the Georgia Tech Invitational this past weekend, Oct. 3-5, with all three players competing in the singles draws for the Wildcats.
Freshman Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) reached the round of 16 when he opened his "A" singles draw with a 6-3, 6-1 win over a player from Kennesaw State. He dropped his next match to Ryan Gamley of Penn State, 6-1 6-0, moving into the "A" consolation bracket. From there, his weekend came to a halt as he fell to Kevin Fleck of Clemson in a well-played, 6-2, 7-6(3), match.
Also competing in the "A" bracket was sophomore Arie Hefter (Birmingham, Ala.), who fell in his first match of the weekend by the count of 6-1, 6-3 to a player from Vanderbilt. Hefter's weekend came to an end when he dropped a 6-1, 6-1, decision in his first consolation match.
The final Wildcat to compete over the weekend was junior Tareq Alani (Chapel Hill, N.C.), who played in the "B" singles bracket. After falling in his first-round match, 6-4, 6-2, Alani came back with a convincing 7-5, 6-4 win over a player from Georgia Tech in his first consolation match. Advancing to the quarterfinals of the consolation round, Alani's weekend came to an end with a 6-2, 6-1 defeat.
The Wildcats return home for their own invitational when the host the Davidson Invite on Friday, Oct. 10 through Saturday, Oct. 11.
