PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The Davidson men's tennis team got a jump start to their 2009 spring season with a solid 7-0 win over Boston University in a neutral site match on Wednesday evening.

Sophomore Walker Lyons and senior Scott Myers were two of four Wildcats to lead them to the victory with wins in both doubles and singles to help carry the 'Cat to the season-opening win.

Lyons and Myers teamed up at the No. 1 doubles spot and assisted the Wildcats in capturing the doubles point with a close 9-7 victory over the Terrier duo of Jeff Chudacoff and Charles Weinstein.

Boston came back to knot things up in doubles action with a win at the No. 3 position, but junior Eric Noble and freshman Calum Gee secured the point with an 8-3 triumph at No. 2.

Davidson then rolled in singles play, taking all six matches in straight sets, with Lyons, Myers, Noble and Gee all picking up their second wins of the day at the No. 1, 3, 2 and 4 spots. Lyons earned a 6-3, 6-3 victory over Chudacoff, while Myers, who was an All-SoCon performer last season, cruised to a 6-4, 6-0 win over Tim Sichler at No. 3.

Noble defeated William Kring at the No. 2 position and Gee, in his first collegiate match, scored a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Weinstein at the No. 4 spot.

Rounding the Wildcats in the victory column was the sophomore duo of Arie Hefter, a 6-2, 6-1 winner at No.5, and Carter Braxton at the No. 6 spot. Braxton, who saw action in doubles last year, earned his first official collegiate singles win with a 6-3, 6-1 decision over Regis Chang.

Davidson turns around and will face Brown on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. The Wildcats scored a 6-1 decision over the Bears in last year's match.
