PROVIDENCE, R.I. — Continuing their three-day trip to the Northeast, the Davidson men's tennis team dropped a 7-0 decision at Brown on Saturday afternoon to fall to 1-1 on the young 2009 season. Brown moved to 2-1 with the win.
The two teams had squared off last year at Davidson, with the Wildcats capturing a 6-1 victory.
The afternoon started off with the Wildcats dropping all three doubles matches. The duo of junior Eric Noble (Fayetteville, N.C.) and freshman Calum Gee (Ayr, Scotland) scored wins in three games, but fell by the count of 8-3, while the Bears took two 8-2 wins at No. 1 and 3.
After capturing all six singles matches on Friday vs. Boston, Davidson could not match its singles play as the Wildcats fell in all six matches. Gee nearly forced a third set by taking Noah Gardner to a tie breaker in his second set, but fell 7-6 after losing the first set 6-3 at the No. 4 spot.
Noble and senior Scott Myers (West Palm Beach, Fla.) each forced an extra game in their second sets, but both of them dropped 7-5 decisions.
Davidson concludes its three-match road swing with an 11 a.m. match at Boston College on Sunday.
