Davidson Ranked 20th in Both Preseason Polls

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off a 29-7 season in which it advanced to the NCAA Tournament Midwest Regional championship, Davidson is ranked 20th in the preseason ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll and the preseason Associated Press poll, both of which came out this week.
It's the first time the Wildcats have been ranked in the preseason since prior to the 1969-70 campaign, when Davidson was ranked fifth in The Associated Press Preseason Poll. The 'Cats closed out the 2007-08 season ranked 23rd in the AP poll and ninth in the ESPN/USA Today Coaches Poll after defeating three ranked opponents en route to the Elite Eight.
North Carolina is ranked first in the Coaches Poll, followed by Connecticut, Louisville, UCLA and Duke, which Davidson will play Jan. 7. Purdue, which Davidson plays Dec. 20, is 10th, and Oklahoma, which is hosting Davidson, James Madison and Mississippi Valley State in the NIT Season Tip-Off Nov. 17-18, is 14th. The Blue Devils are eighth in the AP Poll, while Purdue is 11th and Oklahoma is 12th.
The Wildcats return three starters and 11 lettermen, including four of its top six scorers, from the 2007-08 team. Davidson hosts Lenoir-Rhyne in an exhibition at home Nov. 11, before opening the campaign against Guilford Nov. 14, in Belk Arena.
