
Wildcat Swimmers Impressive in Wins Against College of Charleston

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- In an early-season test, both the Wildcat men's and women's swimming and diving teams scored impressive wins against the College of Charleston Cougars Saturday afternoon at Cannon Natatorium.
The Wildcat women, defending CCSA Champions, won the dual-meet with a score of 184-111, while the men downed the defending champion Cougars, 164-123.
"The teams both performed well today," head coach John Young said. "The men were excited to take a shot at the defending conference champions, and they can be proud of the victory. The women certainly built on strong early season swims."
Sophomores Anna Stringfield, Lindsey Martin and Emily Castle turned in standout performances. Stringfield won the 200 freestyle (1:54.55) and the 500 free (5:05.82), while Martin won the 50 free (23.93) and 100 free (53.28). Castle won a pair of events, the 100 back (1:02.23) and the 100 fly (58.19), and each contributed to winning relays.
Classmate Jessica Delgehausen won the 1000 freestyle, finishing with a time of 10:26.85, the second fastest in Davidson history.
Other individual event winners for the women's team included freshman Lauren Kamperman (200 fly, 2:11.51), junior Kelsey Chisholm (1-meter diving, 219.23) and senior Stephannie McKinney (3-meter diving, 222.45).
On the men's side, captain Merritt Peele, junior Nate Ladner and freshman Geoffrey Peitz had some strong swims.
Showing some range, Peele won the 1000 free with a time of 9:54.62, the 500 free with a time of 4:48.26 and the 50 free with a time of 21.91.
Peitz touched first in the 100 back (52.25), 200 back (1:54.86) and 200 IM (1:57.64), while Ladner won the 100 breast (58.47) and 200 breast (2:11.21). Peele and Ladner also swam on the winning 400 freestyle relay.
Senior Andrew Carlson was also an individual winner in the 100 free with a time of 48.31.
The Wildcats will return to action next Saturday, when they host Emory at 1 p.m. at Cannon Natatorium.
