DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Freshman Ben Lane continued his impressive rookie season by setting a new record in the 3-meter diving event, but the Emory Eagles defeated both the men's and women's swimming and diving teams Saturday afternoon in dual-meet action at Cannon Natatorium.
Lane's score of 315.30 is a new school-record on the 3-meter board, set previously by Chris Wrobleski with a score of 300.75 on Nov. 30, 2001.
“I'm proud of Ben," head coach John Young said. "He is positioned to be a very important contributor to this team throughout his Davidson career. Breaking that record is a great accomplishment, hopefully the first of many as he makes a name for himself at the conference and national level.”
In dual-meet competition, Emory defeated the Wildcat women, 130-113, and the Wildcat men, 148-89.
"The women made a good run today, staying in the meet and nearly bringing the competition down on the final relay," Young said. "On the men's side, Emory's depth was hard for us to combat."
Sophomores Lindsey Martin and Anna Stringfield highlighted the action on the women's side, winning a pair of individual titles each.
Martin won the 50 free with a time of 23.67 and the 100 free with a time of 51.79, improving her own top time in the conference in the 100 and swimming just two-tenths behind her league-leading time in the 50.
"Lindsey continues to impress, elevating her level of performance against good competition, and swimming exciting times for this point in the season," Young said.
Stringfield finished first in the 200 free with a time of 1:53.83 and the 500 free with a time of 5:03.94, both top times in the CCSA this season.
"Anna also had an outstanding day, marking a best-time in the 500 freestyle for the second consecutive weekend," Young said.
The pair also bookmarked the winning 400 freestyle relay, finishing in a time of 3:35.02 along with senior Courtney Sanders and sophomore Emily Castle.
On the men's side, Geoff Peitz won the 200 IM with a time of 1:57.19 and swam leadoff on the winning 400 medley relay, along with junior Nate Ladner, freshman Joe Burquist and senior Andrew Carlson .
Freshman Curtis Chaney won the 100 free with a time of 48.76 and swam the anchor leg on the runner-up men's 400 free relay.
"Geoff had another strong meet, placing himself upon another DCSD top performer list," Young said. "And Curtis Chaney had a couple noteworthy swims – stepping forward in the 100 and on the final relay."
Other event winners for the Wildcats included junior diver Linnea Buttermore on the 1-meter board (202.05), senior Stephannie McKinney on the 3-meter board (228.30) and freshman Lauren Kamperman in the 200 fly (2:11.55).
Davidson will return to action next weekend, traveling to William & Mary for a 1 p.m. meet in Williamsburg, Va.
