
Davidson Swimming Drops Road Contest to William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, VA. - The Davidson men's and women's swimming and diving teams dropped their final tune-up before the Davidson College Invitational, falling to William & Mary on Saturday afternoon at the Rec Center Pool in Williamsburg, Va.
The William and Mary men's team defeated the Wildcats 133-104, while the women triumphed 147-96.
The Wildcats had several multiple event winners, as senior Merritt Peele, freshman Geoffrey Peitz and sophomore Lindsey Martin each won a pair of events.
Peele won the 1000 free with a time of 9:51.24 and the 500 free with a time of 4:45.83.
Peitz won a pair of events, the 400 IM with a time of 4:10.14 and the 100 backstroke in a time of 51.96.
Martin placed first in the 50 free with a time of 24.18 and the 100 free in a time of 52.66.
Other winners for the women were sophomore Anna Stringfield, who won the 1000 meters with a time of 10:29.65, and classmate Emily Castle, who outraced the field in the 100 fly with a time of 58.45.
For the men, freshman Curtis Chaney won the 200 free with a time of 1:44.82, sophomore Nate Ladner won the 100 breaststroke in 59.13, and freshman Ben Lane was the final individual winner for the Wildcats, placing first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 279.08.
The Wildcats will return to Cannon Natatorium to host the Davidson Invitational, Dec. 21-23.
