DAVIDSON, N.C. -- On the heels of scoring his 1,000 career point, Stephen Curry of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named Southern Conference Player of the Month for the second straight month and fifth time in his brief career as announced by the league office Monday afternoon.
For the month of December, Curry averaged 23.2 points, 4.4 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 4.6 three-pointers per game, while connecting on 43.4 percent (23-53) of his attempts from downtown and 13-of-16 (81.3 percent) from the charity stripe.
A native of Charlotte, N.C., Curry averaged 21.3 points against competition that included No. 7 Duke, No. 7 UCLA and North Carolina State.
In Davidson's 25-point win over Georgia Southern, Curry became the second quickest Wildcat to reach the 1,000 point plateau in school history.
Curry, the Southern Conference Preseason Player of the Year, leads the league and ranks fifth nationally in scoring at 24.1 points per game.
A year ago, Curry won the monthy honor three times (November, February and March).
Kyle Hines of UNC Greensboro was also awarded the monthly honor after averaging 16.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and 3.8 blocks per outing.
Davidson will play its first of three straight away from home in a 9 p.m. tip at Elon Wednesday. The game with the Phoenix will be televised on Mid-Atlantic Sports Network (MASN).
