
Stephen Curry Named SoCon Player of the Week

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- After leading the Wildcats to a 3-0 week, Stephen Curry of the Davidson men's basketball team has been named Southern Conference Player of the Week for the week ending Jan. 27 as announced by the league office Monday.
A sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., Curry averaged 24.3 points for the week, while connecting on 25-of-50 from the field and draining 48.2 percent (13-of-27) of his tries from behind the three-point arc. The nation's fifth leading scorer also shot 83.3 percent (10-of-12) from the charity stripe, handed out eight assists and had five steals, all of which came in the 'Cats' 15-point win at Western Carolina.
The 6-3 shooting guard began the week with 29 points against the Catamounts before dropping 28 on The Citadel Thursday. In Davidson's ninth straight victory, a 70-58 decision at College of Charleston Saturday, Curry contributed 16.
For the 2007-08 campaign, the SoCon Preseason Player of the Year is averaging 23.9 points and 4.6 rebounds per outing, while shooting 47.4 percent overall and connecting on 77-of-190 (40.5 percent) from downtown.
Along with ranking among national leaders in scoring, Curry ranks fifth in three-point field goals per game (4.2), seventh in three-pointers made and 21st in free-throw percentage (87.7 percent).
Curry has been named SoCon Player of the Week five times in his brief career.
As a club, Davidson sits at 13-6 overall and 11-0 in the Southern Conference. The Wildcats have won 21 straight league regular season games dating back to last season. They will put their current streaks on the line in a 7 p.m. tip with the Wofford Terriers Wednesday at John M. Belk Arena.
