DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Winners of 17 straight SoCon regular season contests, Stephen Curry and the Davidson Wildcats look to remain perfect in league play with a 2 p.m. tip against the visiting Chattanooga Mocs Saturday at John M. Belk Arena.
WILDCAT UPDATE
The Wildcats enter this afternoon's affair 9-6 overall and 7-0 in the conference following a 22-point win at Furman Wednesday evening. Stephen Curry led four Davidson players in double figures against the Paladins with 14 points, while Jason Richards added 11 and Boris Meno and Will Archambault contributed 12 and 10 off the bench, respectively.
Curry, who has hit the 20-point plateau 29 times in his career, leads the SoCon in scoring and ranks ninth nationally with an average of 22.9 per outing. The 6-3 shooting guard also ranks among national leaders in three-pointers per game (13th / 3.7) and free-throw percentage (22nd / 88.2 percent). The SoCon Preseason Player of the Year has reached
double figures in 42 consecutive games.
Along with Curry ranking among national leaders in scoring, his backcourt mate Richards is also averaging double digits (12.8 ppg.) and still leads
the country in assists at 8.7 per contest, while ranking 16th in assist/turnover ratio (2.8).
The Wildcats and Chattanooga met three times on the hardwood last season with Davidson claiming all three meetings by an average margin of 17.3.
THE MATCHUP
Coaches: Davidson Bob McKillop, the all-time winningest coach in Davidson and SoCon history has compiled a record of 320-224. The six-time SoCon Coach of the Year is in his 19th year at the helm. Chattanooga John Shulman is 66-48 in four seasons.
Series: Chattanooga leads, 30-16.
Last Meeting: Jason Richards and Stephen Curry each scored 20 points and Davidson held off the Mocs 78-68 to advance to the 2007 SoCon Tournament semifinals, March 1.
