Former Men's Basketball Coach Passes Away at Age 67

DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Former Davidson College men's basketball head coach Bobby Hussey passed away Tuesday at the age of 67.
Hussey began his Division I head coaching career with the Wildcats, where he recorded a pair of 20-win seasons in 1985-86 and 1986-87, a Southern Conference tournament crown and NCAA Tournament appearance in 1986. He ranks fourth on Davidson's all-time wins list with 108 victories in eight seasons.
Following his tenure at Davidson, Hussey served as an assistant coach at Clemson (1989-91) before joining Bill Foster's staff at Virginia Tech (1991-97). When Foster retired, Hussey was promoted to head coach (1997-99) before returning to Clemson under Larry Shyatt in 2000.
During his coaching career Hussey won 310 games, including 179 at nearby Belmont Abbey where he coached for 10 seasons.
A visitation will be held Thursday at the Raymer Funeral Home, 16901 Old Statesville Road in Huntersville, N.C. from 6-8 p.m. The Funeral will take place Friday at Denver United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Denver United Methodist Church Life Center, which is currently under construction.
