DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Considered to have one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the nation, Head Coach Bob McKillop and his Davidson Wildcats will battle their second Top-10 opponent on the young campaign in a noon tip with No. 7 Duke at Bobcats Arena Saturday.
SCOUTING THE WILDCATS
- Davidson enters 3-2 overall following a 71-60 victory at Appalachian State Monday evening in both team's Southern Conference opener.
- Stephen Curry (Pronounced STEFF-in) scored a career-high and Holmes Center record 38 points in the win over the Mountaineers. The 6-3 shooting guard knocked down 14-of-27 attempts and tied a personal best and his school record for 3-pointers in a contest with nine.
- This afternoon's meeting with Duke marks the 103rd time these in-state foes have met on the hardwood. The Blue Devils have won 20 straight meetings with the Wildcats, including a 74-61 victory the last time they met in Charlotte, Nov. 22, 2004.
- Curry continues to pace three Davidson players in double figures with an average of 26.0 points per outing, which also ranks him fourth among national leaders. The native of Charlotte, N.C., is shooting 50.0 percent from the floor (47-94) and has converted 23-of-55 (41.8 percent) from downtown. The Preseason SoCon Player of the Year has reached double figures in 38-of-39 contests. Duke held him to just five points a year ago in Durham.
- Along with Curry ranking among national leaders in scoring, his backcourt mate Jason Richards is also averaging in double digits (11.2 ppg.) and leads the country in assists at 8.6 per contest.
- Davidson has never defeated a ranked opponent under Bob McKillop. The Wildcats last win over a team in the Top 25 came during the 1973-74 season when Davidson knocked off No. 15 South Carolina, 70-59, Jan. 12, 1974.
SCOUTING DUKE
- Duke returns four starters and 10 letterwinners from last year's club that finished 22-11 overall and advanced to its 12th straight NCAA Tournament and 23rd under Mike Krzyzewski.
- The Blue Devils enter this afternoon's contest 7-0 overall and No. 7 in both polls. Among Duke's victories include the 2007 Maui Invitational crown (Princeton, Illinois, Marquette) and 82-58 triumph over No. 20 Wisconsin in its last outing to improve to 9-0 all-time in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Tuesday night at Cameron Indoor Stadium.
- Freshman Kyle Singler leads five Duke players in double figures with an average of 14.3 per outing. Gerald Henderson (13.0), DeMarcus Nelson (12.5), Jon Scheyer (10.5) and Taylor King (10.2) are also contributing double digits each time the Blue Devils hit the floor.
