DAVIDSON, N.C. -- Coming off an 83-76 setback at Western Michigan Wednesday evening, the No. 25 Davidson Wildcats look to end their first losing streak since the 2005-06 season with a 2 p.m. contest against in-state foe North Carolina Central Saturday afternoon at John M. Belk Arena.
In its last outing, Davidson's backcourt of Stephen Curry (25) and Jason Richards (23) combined to score 48 of the Wildcats' final total. The duo is also the Wildcats leading scorers at 25.3 and 16.3 points per game, respectively. Curry, who ranks eighth in the nation in points per game, has hit the 20-point plateau in each of Davidson's first three contests, while Richards is setting up more than eight buckets per contest.
North Carolina Central enters today's affair 1-5 following a 73-70 victory over Tennessee Tech Nov. 21. Along with it being their first win of the season, it was also the Eagles' first win as a Division I program.
Charles Futrell leads the Eagles offensively and on the boards averaging 15.3 points and almost six rebounds per outing. Bryan Ayala is also contributing double digits each time NCCU hits the floor at 13.8 per game.
Today's meeting is the first between Davidson and North Carolina Central on the hardwood.
Coaches: Davidson Bob McKillop, the all-time winningest coach in Davidson and SoCon history has compiled a record of 312-220. The six-time SoCon Coach of the Year is in his 19 season. NCCU Henry Dickerson is 40-50 in four seasons on the Eagles' bench and 112-123 as a collegiate head coach.
