An all-star special featuring the South's biggest celebrities, legends and superstars will be taped at Davidson College's Duke Family Performance Hall on Wednesday, December 6.
The 2006 Southern Sports Awards (SSA) will be televised and broadcast throughout the South beginning December 9th. Over 40 affiliates of ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox will broadcast the two-hour “come-as-you-are” awards extravaganza, a first for Davidson College.
Nominees were announced on October 6. Florida's Billy Donovan, NASCAR's Dale Earnhardt Jr., the NFL's Reggie Bush and the SoCon's own Appalachian State football team are among a long list of nominees featured in a variety of categories ranging from Team and Coach of the Year to Team Performance of the Year and Newcomer of the Year.
“Last year's event, which honored Dean Smith, Richard Petty, and Bobby Bowden, was a success with over a half a million viewers tuning in to the broadcast and a turnout of stars that was second to none,” says Michael Burg, Executive Producer. “Viewers can expect the 2006 Southern Sports Awards to be even bigger and better with their favorites on hand to celebrate the passion and tradition of sports in the South.”
The two-hour special will be produced by Edge Marketing and Lincoln Financial Sports. For a complete listing of broadcast dates, times and locations, visit www.southernsportsawards.com.
Davidson is a highly selective independent liberal arts college for 1,700 students. Since its establishment in 1837 by Presbyterians, the college has graduated 23 Rhodes Scholars and is consistently ranked in the top ten liberal arts colleges in the country by U.S. News and World Report magazine.
