DAVIDSON, N.C. – Coming off an impressive 86-61 victory over Elon to open the 2006-07 SoCon slate, Davidson looks for its first road win of the campaign in a 7 p.m. tip-off at league foe UNC Greensboro Monday.
Wildcat forwards Thomas Sander and Andrew Lovedale each recorded double-doubles and had career nights in both points and rebounds to lift Davidson to 5-3 overall following its triumph over the Phoenix.
Sander poured in 30 points and grabbed 14 rebounds, while Lovedale in just his second career start, shattered his previous bests with 16 points and 17 rebounds. Freshmen William Archambault and Stephen Curry also scored in double figures with 16 and 11, respectively for the Wildcats.
Tonight's affair will feature the top scorers in the Southern Conference in Curry and UNC Greensboro's Kyle Hines. Curry is averaging just under 19 points, while Hines, who was tabbed Co-Preseason Player of the Year, holds a clip of 21 per outing.
Selected to win the SoCon North Division regular season crown by league head coaches, the Spartans are 2-5 following a 71-64 setback at Hampton on Nov. 30. Despite its overall mark, UNCG sits at 1-0 in league competition.
Davidson has won seven of the last eight meetings with the Spartans including three straight in Fleming Gym. UNCG's last win over the Wildcats came in the 2005 SoCon Tournament, spoiling Davidson's run at perfection.
The Wildcats' conference opener will be broadcast by the Davidson Sports Network with John Kilgo providing all the action over the airwaves. Coverage will begin 30 minutes before the opening tip at 7 p.m. For fans outside the radio signal, they can listen to the game via TEAMLINE on the internet (www.teamline.cc) or the phone (800-847-4600, team code 1143).
