Wildcats Look for 15th Straight Home Opening Win Wednesday vs. UIC

DAVIDSON, N.C — After winning two of three at the John Thompson Foundation Challenge to begin the 2006-07 campaign, Bob McKillop and his Davidson Wildcats will entertain Illinois-Chicago in their home opener Wednesday evening at 7 p.m.
At the three-game event in Ann Arbor, Mich., Davidson recorded a thrilling come-from-behind victory over Eastern Michigan on Friday, then fell to host Michigan, 78-68, before cruising to a 91-64 win against Central Connecticut State in the final contest Sunday.
Freshman Stephen Curry led the way offensively for the Wildcats with an average of 21.0 points per game, earning JTFC All-Challenge honors. Against the Wolverines on Saturday, the native of Charlotte, N.C., poured in 32 points and grabbed a team-best nine boards.
Junior tri-captains Boris Meno, Jason Richards and Thomas Sander also began their seasons in stellar fashion, accounting for more than 50 percent of the Davidson offense. Sander was the club's high-scorer in both victories with career highs of 19 and 26 points, respectively.
Davidson begins it 18th season in John M. Belk arena this evening and has won each of the past 14 home openers after losing the first three.
Overall, Davidson boasts a 168-57 (.746) record in Belk Arena, and a 151-34 (.816) mark since 1992-93.
Illinois-Chicago enters tomorrow's affair with a record of 1-0 after defeating St. Edward's (Texas) 75-60 on Saturday.
Othyus Jeffers, a Horizon League preseason second-teamer and leading returning scorer from last year's 16-15 club, paced UIC in its opener with a career-high 24 points. Jovan Stefanov also scored in double digits for the Flames with 13 points.
The Wildcats' home opener will be broadcast by WEGO 1410 AM, WFNA 1660 AM and WHIP 1350 AM with John Kilgo providing all the action over the airwaves. Coverage will begin 30 minutes before the opening tip at 7 p.m. For fans outside the radio signal, they can listen to the game via TEAMLINE on the internet (www.teamline.cc) or the phone (800-847-4600, team code 1143).
Davidson College has also partnered with the Southern Conference and XOS Technologies to provide live video streaming over the internet of home men's basketball games, beginning with the home opener against Illinois-Chicago.
