"I am excited about Avi being a part our staff," said Price. "His international background, experience and success as a player and coach will help us continue to move forward as a team and program."
Kigel was the 15th-ranked singles player in NCAA Division II during his playing days at Norfolk State University. During his rookie season in 1995, Kigel was named the Central Intercollegiate Athletic Association (CIAA) Freshman of the Year and reached NCAA All-America status. Following Kigel's sophomore year, NSU advanced to Division I and joined the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC). Kigel led the Spartans to the semifinals of the MEAC Tournament in their first two years of competition.
After receiving his bachelor of science degree from NSU in health and fitness in 1999, Kigel worked as a personal trainer and tennis coach at health clubs in New York City. Kigel is originally from Tel Aviv, Israel, where he grew up playing tennis from the age of four. Kigel was ranked as high as sixth in Israel as a junior (under-18s) and was a member of the Junior National Team.
