  • Title:
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
First Season

Drew Yates, a former NCAA Champion and current member of the Charlotte Eagles (USL Pro Division), is in his first season as a volunteer assistant with the Davidson men’s soccer program.

"I am honored to be a part of the Davidson staff and to have the opportunity to learn the ins and outs of college coaching from Matt, Tony, and Jason,” said Yates. “I'm thankful for the opportunity and looking forward to working with the staff and players throughout the season.”

In addition to helping lead Maryland to the 2008 NCAA National Championship and ACC title, Yates finished his four-year collegiate career with 14 goals, 13 assists and 47 total points, while receiving a number of individual honors including all-conference, all-region and all-academic.

“Drew, like our other new staff coach Jason Strange, carries an NCAA National Championship with his experience and ambition,” head coach Matt Spear commented. “So he's very much determined to share that perspective with our guys and our program.”

“And plus he's still competing at the professional level so he adds the bonus to demonstrate the skill and vision on the training pitch.”

In 2010, Major League Soccer’s Chicago Fire drafted Yates in the second round before signing his first professional contract with FC Tampa Bay in the USSF Division 2 Professional League.

A native of Severna Park, Md., Yates played for the U.S. U-17 National Team in 2004.
