Second Season
The 2012 season marks Robert Fickling’s second as offensive line coach for Davidson College.
In Fickling’s first season, his linemen helped the Wildcat offense averaged 356.9 yards per game, nearly 100 yards more than in 2010. The ‘Cats also vaulted to the top of the league in passing offense, ranking second in the PFL and eighth in the country with 303.4 yards per game. Lineman Ethan Clark received an All-PFL honorable mention.
Fickling came to Davidson from West Texas A&M University, where he spent the 2010 campaign. He helped direct an offensive line that allowed one sack per 33 passing attempts and an offense that averaged 42 points a game (ranked fourth in the nation) and 529 yards (ranked second in nation). The Buffaloes ranked second in the country in passing and also averaged 100 rushing yards a game.
Fickling received his bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas Tech in 2003 and is working towards a master’s degree in sports management at American Military University. Prior to starting a career in coaching, he served five years as a sergeant in Army Military Intelligence, including a 14-month tour of duty in Iraq.
He and his wife, Brittany, live in Huntersville with their sons, Scott and Sean.
