BOILING SPRINGS, N.C. – Playing its first road contest of the 2026 spring season, Davidson defeated Gardner-Webb, 6-1, in non-conference women's tennis action Saturday afternoon at the Webb Tennis Complex.
With the win, the Wildcats remain undefeated, improving to 3-0 in dual action. The setback drops the Runnin' Bulldogs to 1-2.
"Gardner Webb is always a tricky team," commented Davidson head coach Susanne Depka. "They fight hard and never give up and it's a good mental test."
"We started out a bit slow in doubles and did well going into singles. We had some ups and downs in several matches but were able to bring the focus back to the present. We took a lot of lessons from this match which will help us moving forward if we are ever in similar situations. I'm proud of the team's ability to work through difficult times throughout the match today.
For the third consecutive dual, Davidson grabbed the early team advantage by taking the doubles point with victories on courts one and two. Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford improved to 8-2 on the 2025-26 season with a 6-4 win over Emma Shasteen and Arili Boshoff. The Wildcat duo of Charlotte Calderwood and Ellie Hammond remained perfect on the spring with a 6-4 victory of their own.
In singles action, Davidson got straight set victories from Langford (7-5, 6-1), Hammond (6-2, 6-3) and Keri Rothenberg (6-2, 6-2), while Kollock (6-3, 4-6, 10-8) and Olivia Hooper (6-3, 3-6, 6-4) battled to three-set wins.
Gardner-Webb's lone win came from Valerie Lloccla at the No. 4 spot, 6-3, 2-6, 10-8.
