WASHINGTON — After two event wins Friday against UNC Asheville, Davidson swimmer Bea Turrettini has been named Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday afternoon.
A freshman from Concord, Mass., Turrettini won the 500 and 1,000 freestyle events against the Bulldogs in Cannon Pool.
"I'm delighted to see Bea's performances recognized with this week's A10 Rookie award," said Davidson coach John Young. "She raced tough on Friday, and the results offer another glimpse of her considerable potential. As Bea and her classmates navigate their transition to college and college swimming, they've already impacted our team and its culture in a positive way. This recognition is a great boost for our last block of training before midseason — I'm eager to see Bea's smile when we celebrate with a worthy distance set."
Turrettini posted some of the A10's top times in her events. She won the 500 in 4:59.89, which ranks second in the league so far this year. Her 1,000 time of 10:18.15 ranks third.
The Wildcats return to action next month at the Bucknell Invitational.
