WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Davidson women's tennis team jumped back into the win column, taking a 6-1 victory over Rollins College on the road in part of their Spring Break trip Thursday morning.Â
The win extends the Wildcats successful season to 9-3 overall. The mid-week match was played at the USTA National Campus which is the same location of the Atlantic 10 Tournament later this season in April.Â
"Our processes improved from our match against VCU which was our goal, and I am proud of the team for accomplishing this," said head coach Susanne Depka. "The conditions were tough at times, but the team stayed strong mentally and physically to defeat a good Rollins team."Â
The Wildcats swept the doubles competition with the pairs Kavya Patel / Daniela Porges (6-2), Savanna Kollock / Bryson Langford (7-6, 3) and Ellie Hammond / Alex Rodehorst (6-4) all taking care of business to secure the first team point.Â
Kollock was the first Davidson player to notch a point in singles as she took the opening set 6-1 before closing the door in the second 6-4.Â
The Tars scored what would be their lone point of the day on court five, edging out a two-set victory.Â
Olivia Hooper returned the gesture, battling through difficulties to come away with a 6-4, 6-2 triumph, lifting the Wildcats ahead 3-1.Â
Langford and Hammond followed suit dealing their opponents two-set losses, sophomore Langford upended her Rollins competitor 6-3, 6-3 on court three while rookie Hammond came out on top in two close sets 7-5, 7-5.Â
Patel at the No. 1 position was the final match on the court and the only one to see three sets as she won the first 6-3 before falling 6-1 in the second and ultimately winning the fight for a 6-3 third and the sixth team point.Â
