
'Cats Use Fast Start and Defense to Win at UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – In addition to holding UMass to just 26 percent, Davidson got 15 points each from Charlise Dunn and Katie Donovan as the Wildcats cruised to a 56-38 Atlantic 10 women's basketball victory Saturday inside the Mullins Center.
With their third straight win, the Wildcats improve to 13-11 overall and 8-4 in league action, while the Minutewomen fall to 13-11 and 8-5.
Davidson raced out to an 8-0 advantage and pushed the lead to 28-13 on a Dunn coast-to-coast layup before entering the half up, 33-20. Dunn shot an efficient 4-of-9 from the field with three made triples in the first half while Donovan was all over the boards with six rebounds in the first 20 minutes.
The 'Cats shot 52 percent in the opening 20 minutes including 6-of-12 from long range. Davidson would go on to finish the game with 10 3-pointers. Marking the Wildcats' seventh game this season with 10+ made 3-pointers.
After the Minutewomen cut the deficit to 39-32 with eight unanswered late in the third, Davidson pushed the margin back to double figures early in the final quarter to all but put the game out of reach. The Wildcats held UMass to just one field goal in the last 10 minutes, while outscoring them 16-6.
Yahmani McKayle was the lone UMass player in double figures with 14 points.
