'Cats Fall 4-3 To James Madison

DAVIDSON, N.C. - The Davidson men's tennis team took an early lead Saturday afternoon before ultimately falling 4-3 at home to James Madison.Â
The Wildcats moved to an even 5-5 on the year while remaining 1-0 in Atlantic 10 competition.Â
Davidson started the match in fine fashion taking the doubles point with Nico Pinzon and Gregorio Hidalgo picking up a 6-1 No. 1 win as well as Davide Procacci and Nikhil Mukherjee earning a 6-4 No. 3 triumph.Â
The 'Cats quickly moved to a 2-0 advantage over the the Dukes with Hidalgo taking his second win of the match via 6-1, 6-2 victory on court four.Â
James Madison followed up with three straight singles victories on courts two, three and one respectively before the 'Cats evened the score 3-3 after Pinzon defeated his opponent in the No. 5 position 6-2, 7-6.Â
With the No. 6 match the last being played, Markus Giersiepen too the first set 6-3 before trailing to Mukherjee 3-1 in the second and eventually evening the bout to 5-5 However, Giersiepen was able to finish off the match taking the final set 7-5.Â
Up Next
Davidson will remain on its home court to face non-conference opponent Youngstown State March 6.Â
