DAVIDSON, N.C. — Katie Donovan scored a game-high 19 points and Charlise Dunn added her third straight double-double to lead the Davidson women's basketball team to a 72-55 win over Duquesne in the teams' Atlantic 10 Conference opener Wednesday night in Belk Arena.
It's the third straight year the Wildcats, now 6-3, have opened A-10 play with a victory.
Leading 34-33 at the break, Davidson took over in the second 20 minutes, outscoring the Dukes 38-22 as Duquesne (6-3) struggled to 33 percent shooting from the field.
The Wildcats pushed their lead to double digits for the first time in the third quarter, following a 7-1 run, then scored the first eight points of the fourth to pull away.
Donovan scored 11 of her points in the first half, including a 3-pointer in a 12-0 first-quarter run that produced a 15-6 lead.
Dunn finished with 10 points and 11 boards, and Kyra Bruyndoncx also added 10 points.
Duquesne had an 11-0 spurt in the first quarter, and the teams played within a possession of each other for most of the second quarter. Gabby Grantham-Medley scored a team-best 14 for the Dukes.
Wednesday's game was the first of 18 A-10 contests, and the 17 others will occur in succession, beginning with the Wildcats' Dec. 31 trip to Loyola Chicago. Prior to that, the Wildcats will play five more non-conference contests.
Last year, Davidson defeated Duquesne 76-70 in the A-10 debut, and the Wildcats defeated Dayton 81-53 in the 2023-24 A-10 opener.
