DAVIDSON, N.C. — Davidson Vice President and Director of Athletics Chris Clunie has announced a contract extension for head women's basketball coach Gayle Fulks through the 2032 season.
"We are thrilled to lock in Coach Fulks and her family here at Davidson," said VP & Athletic Director Chris Clunie. "She has greatly elevated the program during her time here, and we are excited about the team's direction and success."
Now in her ninth season at the helm, Fulks has shaped the women's basketball program into a perennial contender in the Atlantic 10 Conference. The 2024-25 campaign was one of the most successful in program history, as Fulks guided the 'Cats to 19 victories and a program-best 13 league wins. That resulted in a third-place finish, the program's highest since joining the league in 2014.
Over her tenure, Fulks has accumulated a 126-116 record, making her the second winningest coach in program history. She has also coached 15 all-conference players, including four in the 2024-45 season.
Last year, the 'Cats advanced to the A-10 semifinals for the first time, and Davidson secured an at-large selection into the newly launched Women's Basketball Invitation Tournament (WBIT).
"I am grateful to have signed this long-term extension with Davidson College," said Fulks. "Over the last eight years, it has become crystal clear that Davidson College cares deeply about women's basketball and the scholar-athlete experience, which are both incredibly important to me. We want to be the best of both worlds and are committed and invested in doing it every day. This alignment has made Davidson College my dream job, and my family and I could not be prouder to call it home. I want to thank Chris Clunie, President Doug Hicks and our passionate basketball community for their belief in and support of our program. Chris and Doug's leadership have helped our program reach new heights, and I'm excited to continue to work alongside them for a very long time."
Fulks' Share, Shoot, Stifle team mantra was utilized to the fullest last season, as the Wildcats were one of the most efficient and productive teams in outside shooting, while making a school-record 243 3-pointers. They also ranked among national leaders in 3-point differential (5th), 3-point defense (1st) and assists per game against (1st). In conference play, no team was better in blocks, points allowed, field-goal percentage defense and 3-point field goal percentage defense.
In 2023-24, Fulks guided her club to an 18-8 record in games played that season, to go along with a .692 winning percentage, which ranked third best in program history. Davidson opened that season with a 12-1 record, including two wins over ACC opponents and the first-ever win over a ranked team, the No. 22 Duke Blue Devils.
The Wildcats have opened the 2025-26 season 3-1 with wins over 2024-25 NCAA Tournament teams William & Mary and FGCU and continue their campaign with three matchups next week against Iona, Miami and nationally ranked Baylor.
