1ST AND 10
- Davidson will head to the Empire State this weekend for its final road test of the 2025 season.
- Last Saturday, the Wildcats pulled off one of the biggest upsets at the FCS level this season with their 14-13 win over No. 23/25 Presbyterian.
- With the win, Davidson retained the 1919 Cup / Carolina Border Clash Trophy, which was formed prior to the 2021 season.
- Four of Davidson's opponents this season have appeared in the FCS Top-25 or received votes.
- Since joining the Pioneer Football League (2001), Davidson is 2-4 against teams ranked in the FCS Top-25 (2021 - at San Diego / 2025 - Presbyterian).
- Despite its record, Davidson has been tied or had the lead in the fourth quarter in the last three contests and fourth of the last six dating back to Stetson (10/4).
- Prior to its game against PC, the last time the Wildcats hosted a ranked team was exactly 84 years ago when No. 4 (AP) Duke visited Richardson Stadium Nov. 8, 1941.
- Dating back to 2018, Davidson has a 36-23 PFL mark, while capturing two regular season crowns and making three FCS Playoff appearances.
- Davidson and Marist have met 14 times on the Gridiron with the Red Foxes controlling the series, 11-3.
- Despite trailing the all-time series, the Wildcats have won the last two meetings.
- Prior to 2024, Marist had won nine straight against Davidson.
- Last year's victory over the Red Foxes was the Wildcats' first-ever win over their PFL foe in Davidson.
- Davidson will close out its 2025 season next weekend with a 1 p.m. kickoff against Dayton on Field 76.
- Playing a nationally-ranked opponent on their home field for the first time in 84 years, Davidson upset No. 23/25 Presbyterian, 14-13, to retain the 1919 Cup, Saturday afternoon inside Davidson College Stadium.
- Senior safety Dominic Njoku secured the Wildcats' first win over a ranked opponent since 2021 (at No. 25 San Diego) picking off the Blue Hose's Ty Englehart with 2:15 left to play.
- Davidson scored on consecutive possessions to lead 14-0 after one. Hayden Bender's interception set up Langston Green's second career touchdown catch before Coulter Cleland connected with Mason Sheron on a three-yard pass with 20 seconds left in the opening quarter.
- Sheron added 91 rushing yards on 20 carries.
- Presbyterian (8-2, 4-2 PFL), which climbed to as high as 16th in polls earlier this season with wins over No. 11 Mercer and Furman, had won 12 of its last 13 dating back to 2024.
- The Wildcats held the Blue Hose to just 69 yards in the air, while forcing a pair of turnovers.
- Senior Mikah Kent led Davidson on the defensive side of the ball with nine tackles, a sack and two tackles for a loss.
- The Davidson football team earned win No. 45 of the Scott Abell coaching era in fitting fashion Oct. 5, 2024, compiling 540 yards of offense in a 42-19 win over Pioneer Football League foe Marist on Field 76.
- Abell, who brought a high-numbers offense to Davidson seven years ago, broke William Younger's (1923-31) record for the most coaching wins in program history.
- Running back Mari Adams and quarterback Andrew Frazier combined for 279 rushing yards and two scores, while Frazier had another efficient game at signal caller, finishing 8-of-10 passing for 144 yards and two touchdowns.
- For the second straight game, Davidson raced out to a 21-0 lead, this time highlighted by a Frazier to Brody Reina 43-yard touchdown pass.
- Adams (1-yard run) and Sam Valor (6-yard run) added touchdowns for the 'Cats, who led 21-7 at the half behind 300 yards of total offense.
- After forcing Marist to punt on its opening drive of the third quarter, the Wildcats went deep into their bag of tricks, faking a 30-yard field goal that resulted in holder Aaron Maione connecting with tight end Christian Berry on a 12-yard touchdown pass.
- Adams ran 24 times for 164 yards and also had a 3-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter.
- Frazier rushed 17 times for 115 yards and found Sam Hedrick for a 10-yard score in the fourth quarter.
