HIGH POINT, N.C. – The Davidson men's track and field team opened competition at High Point's VertKlasse Meeting on Friday. Seven 'Cats were in action on the first day which was highlighted by four top-five finishes and three personal-bests.

Junior Grahm Breiter got things started for the Wildcat men in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. The California native took third place after finishing in 9:18.99.

Next up was freshman Daniel Cortese in the 1,500-meters. Cortese notched a season and personal-best mark by crossing the line in 4:04.66. This was good for a top-25 finish.

Davidson got two top-five finishes in the 5,000-meters thanks to solid efforts from Kenny Eheman and John Cooper. Eheman ran the event for the first time this outdoor season and turned in a third-place performance with a time of 14:46.79. Freshman John Cooper also ran the 5k for the first time this spring and took fifth with a mark of 14:56.63. Fellow freshman Zak Abdulahi recorded a personal-best 16:13.15.

In Friday's field events, Nick Masterman and Chris Thompson each competed in the javelin. Masterman had himself a day by smashing a personal record with a toss of 58.90 meters. This shattered his previous best of 55.28 which he set at the same meet back in 2022. Friday's throw also put Masterman second in the Davidson record book and second on the A-10 Performance List.
