Okeke Breaks School Record; 'Cats Finish Up at Duke Invitational
4/13/2024 6:00:00 PM | Men's Track & Field
DURHAM, N.C .– The Davidson men's track & field team competed at the Duke Invitational in Durham on Friday and Saturday. The Wildcats were led by Chinedu Okeke who broke the school record in the 100-meters.
Ahead of Okeke's record-setting day, five 'Cats ran on Friday. Josh Hardin recorded a time 21.68 in the 200-meters, his best this outdoor season. Then, the trio of Grahm Breiter, Kenny Eheman and John Cooper ran the 1500-meters and all three recorded personal-best marks. Breiter led the way with a fourth-place finish in a personal-best time of 3:51.00. Eheman was next to cross the line in 3:53.88 and Cooper finished in 3:56.04.
Jack Muldoon wrapped up day one with a top-ten finish in the 800-meter invite. He matched his season-best time with another mark of 1:51.80 to finish tenth.
On Saturday, Davidson's day began in the 110-meter hurdles. Reigning A-10 Track Performer of the Week, Jayden Smith, took third place in just his second outdoor appearance in the event this season. He bested his time from last week with a 13.81 to further solidify himself atop the conference.
In the 400-meters, defending A-10 outdoor champion, Josh Hardin, returned to the event for the first time this spring and notched a time of 47.86 seconds. This was good for 12th at the meet and puts him well inside the top-10 on the Atlantic 10 Performance list.
Next up was Chinedu Okeke in the 100-meters. The Bronx, N.Y. native recorded a time of 10.62 seconds back at the Raleigh Relays, but a wind factor of 3.6 nullified the potential record-setting time. This time around, Okeke put himself back in record-breaking position when he sprinted across the line in 10.65 seconds with wind not a factor. His time shattered his previous record of 10.72 which he set at last year's A-10 Championships.
Rounding out the day was Nick Masterman earning a top-ten finish in the javelin with a throw of 55.71 meters.
