Heiderscheit Clinches First Round Match Over Saint Joseph's: 'Cats Face Fordham 4:30 Thursday

ORLANDO, FLA. - The Davidson women's tennis team picked up a convincing 4-0 first round victory over Saint Joseph's Wednesday after Emma Heiderscheit clinched the match point. Davidon now advances to the quarterfinals 4:30 Thursday against No. 4 Fordham.Â
"We had a great first match," said head coach Susanne Depka. "There are always some jitters that go with the first day of the tournament. I thought we did well with our processes and am proud for how everyone handled adversity. I believe today helped prepare us for the next match and I am excited for what tomorrow brings."
For the fourth consecutive season, the Wildcats will advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Tournament and are set to face No. 4 Fordham 4:30 p.m. Thursday.Â
Davidson was able to get on the board first by taking care of business in doubles action. Senior Emma Heiderscheit and sophomore Savanna Kollock cruised to a 6-1 victory in the No. 2 pairing while Daniela Porges and Kavya Patel extended their doubles wins with a 6-3 triumph on court one. Patel and Porges move to 12-4 as a unit while Heiderscheit and Kollock improve to 3-2 on the season.Â
In singles, Patel continued in her winning ways, pushing the Wildcats lead to 2-0 with a 6-2, 6-2 win in the No. 2 spot. Rookie Bryson Langford quickly followed on court five with an impressive 6-1, 6-2 victory of her own putting the Wildcats one point away from the sweep.Â
On court three, Heiderscheit battled her way back to take the opening set 7-5 before powering to a dominant 6-1 second set that clinched the match for Davidson.Â
