WINTER PARK, Fla. - The Davidson women's tennis team picked up its second straight win when it traveled south to battle Rollins College to a 5-2 victory Friday.
"We had a bit of adversity and nerves at times but we handled ourselves well," said head coach Susanne Depka. "Rollins never let up and fought all the way to the end which was a good test for us. We had to work through some things on some courts and were able to finish strong. I'm proud of the team for bringing all that we have been working on in practice into the matches. It has been great seeing them learn from the lessons from each match and continuing to improve."
The win improves the Wildcats overall record to 7-4 while Rollins falls to 4-5.
The afternoon kicked off with a sweep in doubles action as Kavya Patel and Daniela Porges took a clean 6-0 win in the No. 1 spot followed by a 6-4 win by the pairing of Emma Heiderscheit and Olivia Hooper in the No. 2 spot. Savanna Kollock and Bryson Langford were victorious is a similar 6-4 fashion on court three to round out doubles play.
The Wildcats went on to tally their second team point when Porges earned her second win of the day by way of tidy 6-0, 6-2 triumph in No. 3 singles. Hooper extended the 'Cats lead with a win of her own in the No. 6 spot via 7-5, 6-1 win.
Off to a great rookie debut, freshman Langford picked up her seventh singles victory of the season as she swung her way to a 6-4, 6-3 win on court five for the match clinching fourth team point for Davidson.
The Tars were able to claim a pair of points as they took wins on courts one and two. Heiderscheit on court one pushed her match to three sets while fighting through the matches entirety before narrowly falling. However, Patel stretched her unbeaten streak to five matches in singles action after earning a 7-6, 6-4 victory at the No. 4 spot.
Davidson will continue in non-conference play when it returns to the Davidson Tennis Courts to host Radford 2 p.m. March 16.
