Davidson Narrowly Drops Road Test to UMass

AMHERST, Mass. – Jenna Skibbe scored three-straight goals in the fourth quarter, cutting Davidson's deficit to one with 8 minutes left to play on Saturday afternoon, but the UMass Minutewomen responded with a pair of goals to seal the 13-11 Atlantic 10 lacrosse victory.
With the result, Davidson moves to 6-6 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Minutewomen remain undefeated at 5-0 in league play, despite the Wildcats holding UMass to its fewest goals scored against A-10 competition this season.
Davidson trailed 10-5 entering the fourth quarter on Saturday, outscoring UMass 6-3 before running out of time on its late comeback. The 'Cats scored five of the first six goals of the frame, kicked off by Brooke Ross' third score of the contest. UMass' Charlotte Wilmoth scored on the following draw to maintain the home squad's five-goal lead, but from there, Lauren Garcia, Allie Hartnett and Jenna Skibbe scored four-straight and pulled the 'Cats back within one of the Minutewomen, 11-10.
UMass responded to the late threat, with leading scorer Kassidy Morris scoring her sixth goal of the game and the ultimate game-winner.
Skibbe plated one more goal, to make it 13-11 with 2:08 remaining, but a long offensive possession for the Minutewomen secured the win on their home turf.
Julianne Carey, Josie Lambert and Riley Cochrane also appeared in the scoring column for the 'Cats, as Davidson totaled 10 saves in net from the efforts of Paige Doyle and Kayle Joyce.
UMass held the advantage on the draw, 12-8, while out-shooting the Wildcats narrowly, 31-25.
