Mecer Holds off Davidson, 17-10

DAVIDSON, N.C. – A second quarter surge from Mercer proved to be the difference in Davidson lacrosse's 17-10 loss on Saturday afternoon.
The Wildcats dropped to 3-2 with the result, as the Bears picked up their first win of the season and improved to 1-1.
Freshman Jenna Skibbe led the 'Cats in scoring for the second-straight contest, recording three goals on eight shots. Brooke Ross and Riley Cochrane notched four points apiece, while Allie Hartnett picked up four assists, five ground balls and four caused turnovers.
An early feed from Cochrane to Josie Lambert got the 'Cats off to a good start, before Davidson and Mercer went goal-for-goal in the first quarter and were tied at 4-all after 15 minutes of work.
Ross scored her second goal of the day to put the 'Cats ahead 5-4 at the start of the second, but the Bears responded with eight unanswered goals and took hold of the game for good with a 12-5 lead at the start of the third period.
The Wildcats would crawl back within three of Mercer, 12-9, after four-straight goals from Skibbe, Adrienne Leone and Riley Moore, but the Bears responded with a 4-1 fourth quarter and secured the seven-point victory.

Davidson will have a full week off from game action, before returning to play on the West Coast for a pair of Californian matchups over spring break. The 'Cats will take on UC Davis on Sunday, March 3 before meeting Stanford on Tuesday, March 5.
