
Final Minute Heroics Lead 'Cats to Road Win

CHICAGO, ILL. – Elle Sutphin nailed a jumper with 35 seconds remaining before Millie Prior made a clutch block and Issy Morgan took one final charge to lift the Davidson women's basketball team past Loyola Chicago, 48-45 Sunday.
The win improves the Wildcats to 17-6 overall and 7-5 in the Atlantic 10 while the Ramblers move to 12-12 overall and 6-7 in league action.
Morgan and Chloe Oliver hit back-to-back threes in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, giving Davidson an eight-point lead (41-33) before Loyola Chicago scored nine unanswered points to take a one-point lead of its own.
The 'Cats and Ramblers traded one-point advantages to a 45-44 lead for Loyola Chicago with 1:05 remaining in regulation. Sutphin hit a turnaround jumper with 35 ticks on the clock to put Davidson back out front by one.
With only 15 seconds remaining and Ramblers ball, Prior tabbed a monstrous block and 11 seconds later Morgan took a clutch charge negating any chance for a Loyola Chicago comeback effort.
Loyola Chicago took the first quarter by one point before the 'Cats defense responded and held the Ramblers to only four second quarter points to take a 27-18 halftime lead. The 'Blers outscored the Wildcats 13-8 in the third quarter to narrow the game once more.
Maddie Plank ended the night with a team-high 12 points to go along with six rebounds while Katie Donovan chipped in eight points of her own.
Sam Galanopoulos led Loyola Chicago with 18 points.
