Field Hockey Battles VCU in OT Loss

RICHMOND, Va. — Matilda Collins scored late to help the Davidson field hockey team force overtime at VCU Friday afternoon, but it was the Rams that ultimately prevailed 2-1 in an Atlantic 10 Conference matchup.
Playing its fourth overtime game of the season, Davidson was vying for its first win over VCU since 2015. The Wildcats are now 3-6 overall and 0-2 in the A-10, while VCU improved to 6-2 and 1-1.
VCU's Luisa Fasold scored the game-winner nine minutes into the first 10-minute overtime.
Collins' tying goal came off a penalty corner with 2:32 left in regulation. She scored from the left side of the arc, after Celie Constantine's insertion.
The teams played a scoreless first half, and VCU took a 1-0 lead on Morena Macera's goal just 2:22 into the third quarter.
Davidson keeper Cato Roell had a career-best 15 saves, as she faced 17 shots-on-goal and 17 penalty corners.
