Heffner Climbs into Lead; ‘Cats Open Up Nine Stroke Advantage

KISSIMMEE, Fla. – Behind impressive rounds from Brian Garrett (66) and Alex Heffner (67), Davidson (-11) extended its lead on day two of the 2023 Atlantic 10 Men's Golf Championship at Reunion Resort.
The three-day / 54-hole event is being played on the 7,219-yard, Par 72 Nicklaus layout.
In search of its third straight conference title and fourth in the last five competed, Davidson fired a 7-under 281 Saturday to take a nine-shot advantage over Loyola (-2). VCU (+3) is 14 off the lead following a 3-over 291.
Heffner (-8), who will enter the final day atop the individual leaderboard with a four-stroke lead, played his final seven holes in 6-under, highlighted by an eagle on the Par 5 15th to shoot 30 on the back side. The 2022 Atlantic 10 Player of the Year is one of just three golfers in the 60-player field to open with consecutive sub-par rounds.
Senior Brian Garrett (78-66 = 144 | E) bounced back in impressive fashion for the Wildcats, climbing 36 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 10th with the lowest round of the tournament, a 6-under 66.
Garrett is two back of teammate and overnight leader Will Davis, who sits tied for eighth at 2-under 142 (68-74).
Davidson's Ethan Hall (+2 | T-16) also sits inside the top 20, while Joshua Stewart (75-75 = 150) is two back in a tie for 27th.
Tomorrow's final round will begin at 7:30 a.m. off the first and 10th tees. For the second consecutive day, the Wildcats will be paired with Loyola and VCU with start times beginning at 8:20 a.m.
