Hawks Clip Wildcats in Double Overtime

PHILADELPHIA – Davidson lacrosse erased a five-goal deficit with less than 90 seconds to go in regulation on Sunday afternoon, forcing two overtime periods against Saint Joseph's before falling to the reigning Atlantic 10 Champions, 16-15.
The one-goal game marked the fourth of its kind for the Wildcats this season, as Davidson also played its third overtime contest this year, despite dropping to 10-4 overall and 5-2 in A-10 play.
In a game that took 2 hours and 49 minutes, the 'Cats and Hawks were tied at 1-1 in the opening minutes of play and were not even again until 1:29 remained in regulation, when Lauren Garcia scored the equalizer, 15-all, with her third goal of the season.
Senior keeper Amanda Monahan ended with 10 saves, including three during the overtime periods, while Erin Cooke and Julianne Carey led the way with six points apiece.
Davidson's only lead of the day was from a 1-0 start after Cooke fed Grace Fahey from behind the crease to get on the board just two minutes in.
While trailing just 3-2 after the first quarter, Saint Joseph's scored seven goals in the second to pull away to a 10-5 lead, its largest of the day, before Cooke scored her first to make it a four-goal game going into the break.
In the second half, Davidson out scored Saint Joe's 9-5 and put together a dominant 5-2 third quarter to begin its comeback. Over that stretch, Carey scored three of her four goals of the day while Allie Hartnett, Sophia Passalaqua and Adrienne Leone each added a goal to aid the resurgence.

Davidson will play its final home game of the 2023 season next Saturday, April 22 against Richmond. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
