4/1/2023 8:50:00 PM | Men's Track & Field

HIGH POINT, N.C. – Senior Joe dosReis made history at the final day of the VertKlasse Meeting on Saturday when he broke the meet record and set a new program mark in the 800 meters.

The Smithfield, R.I., product opened his outdoor campaign with a bang after he finished in first place in the 800 meters with a blazing time of 1:49.04. This broke the VertKlasse meet record and also set a new program mark. The historic run also puts dosReis atop the Atlantic 10 and ranks twelfth in Division I.

Davidson dominated the rest of the 800-meter event as senior Owen Drometer finished close behind doReis with a new PR and a second-place finish. Drometer crossed the line at 1:49.73 to move to third-fastest in the conference. Also in the 800, Jack Muldoon, Miles Kominsky, and Owen Lekki all set new personal-bests and finished in fourth, ninth, and eleventh respectively.

In the 400, Josh Hardin competed in his first outdoor meet of the season and took home a second-place finish after stopping the clock at 47.99. The 2022 Atlantic 10 Champion is the second-fastest on the A-10 Performance List after today's meet.

Jordan Benson was the lone Wildcat to run in the 110-meter hurdles, but he earned a top-two finish when he clocked in with a new personal-best time at 14.09. This puts Benson right behind teammate Jordan Smith as the fastest duo in the conference.

In field events, Nick Tompkins finished in third place while competing in the top group of the high jump. Tompkins cleared the bar at a career-high mark of 2.04 meters, and he now ranks fourth in the A-10. Jack Stajos also broke a school record in the discus with his throw of 51.13 meters. This performance gave Stajos an eighth-place finish at the meet and puts him second on the conference outdoor list.

The men's squad will next set their sights on the Duke Invitational next weekend.
