DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Davidson women's tennis team dropped a non-conference match to Western Carolina on Sunday, 4-3.
The Wildcats secured the first point of the day after Daniela Porges and Kavya Patel won the second doubles match 6-4 then, Josie Schaffer and Savanna Kollock took the third doubles match, 6-2. This gave Davidson a 1-0 lead.
As the match transitioned into singles play, Josie Schaffer got Davidson off to a good start when she won the top singles pairing, 6-2, 6-2. The 'Cats dropped the No. 2 singles match, but Daniela Porges came out on top in the No. 3 match, 6-2, 6-4. This gave Porges her third singles win of the season and the Wildcats a 3-1 advantage.
Down the stretch, WCU won the No. 6 match to cut Davidson's lead to one before taking the advantage with a pair of close three-set victories in the No. 4 and 5 spots.
The Wildcats will be back on the court next Saturday at UNC Greensboro with first serve set for 1:00 p.m.
