CONWAY, S.C. – Davidson lacrosse held Coastal Carolina scoreless for an entire period of non-conference action on Sunday afternoon, while using a 7-0 scoring run to defeat the Chanticleers 13-8.
Julianne Carey and Grace Fahey paced the Wildcats' offense in the win, as the duo each dished one assist while scoring four and three goals, respectively. Carey won a game-high nine draw controls and scored the 100th point of her career with her lone assist.
On the defensive end, Amanda Monahan made 10 saves and earned her second win of the season in cage.
Coastal Carolina controlled the game's momentum in the early goings, scoring two quick goals at the start of the first and second periods to take a 4-2 lead. While Carey and rookie Allie Hartnett had gotten the 'Cats started, Molly Murphy and Fahey closed out the half for Davidson with three-straight goals to come-from-behind and give the Wildcats their first lead of the day, 5-4.
Davidson's defense held the Chanticleers to just one shot on goal in the third, while causing seven turnovers and putting the Wildcats' offense in a position to score three more times before the end of the frame. Carey and Erin Cooke combined for the three goals, as Carey's second of the quarter was a woman-down goal for Davidson that proved to be the eventual game-winner.
The 'Cats stretched their lead to six goals, 11-5, before eventually closing out the five-point victory.
Overall, Davidson went 17-of-22 on clear attempts and picked up 17 ground balls.
