Fahey's Seven-Point Day Boosts 'Cats Past Mercer

MACON, Ga. – Senior captain Grace Fahey had a career-best seven-point day on Sunday to lead the Davidson lacrosse team past Mercer, 20-14.
Fahey recorded four goals and three assists in addition to reigning Atlantic 10 Player of the Week Julianne Carey scoring four goals and winning seven draw controls. Senior Margaret Anne Warner was also a threat on the draw circle, winning four balls while causing three turnovers.
After one quarter of play Davidson and Mercer were all knotted up at five goals apiece, but the 'Cats separated themselves in the second with six goals and took an 11-8 lead at halftime.
Davidson led off the second quarter surge scoring on a woman-up opportunity, as the Wildcats went on to record five-straight goals with scores from Allie Hartnett, Josie Lambert and two from Carey to take a 10-5 lead. Fahey scored once more before the half ended, while Riley Cochrane, Molly Murphy and Carey opened up the second half with another 3-0 scoring run.
Despite the Bears pulling within three of Davidson, 16-13, with 11:04 left to play, the Wildcats scored four of the five final goals of the game and secured the six-point victory.
Sunday's win over the Bears improves Davidson to 3-1 overall, and 3-0 when competing on the road.

The 'Cats will return to action on Wednesday, March 1 back inside Richardson Stadium to take on Winthrop at 4:30 p.m. The contest will also serve as the program's Senior Day, beginning promptly at 4:15 p.m.
