Last Time Out... Julianne Carey and Riley Cochrane scored five goals apiece to help Davidson erase a four-goal deficit and defeat High Point University 17-13 on Saturday afternoon. The win marked the third straight year in which the Wildcats have defeated the Panthers, and the second consecutive season where Davidson won its season opener over HPU.
About the Blue Devils... Duke opened up the 2023 season with a 15-10 victory over Navy last Friday, scoring the first five goals in the first 10 minutes of the contest. Anna Callahan tied a career-high five points off two goals and three assists, while eight Blue Devils made their way into the scoring column. Goalkeeper Sophia LeRose made 12 saves in the win.
Historically Speaking... The Blue Devils entered the year with a preseason ranking of No. 11, and have maintained that stature after the first week of the season. Duke holds the all-time series over Davidson at an 8-0 advantage, winning last season's contest 20-3 in Durham.
Taking Notice... Davidson freshman Allie Hartnett was named the Atlantic 10's Rookie of the Week after the first week of the 2023 season, the league office announced Monday. Hartnett helped the Wildcats to a 17-13 victory over High Point University on Saturday, as the Ohio native scored the eventual game-winning goal in her first collegiate game and dished three assists.
