Five 'Cats Wrestle at Patriot Open

FAIRFAX, Va. – Five Wildats wrestled at George Mason's A Better Way Athletics Patriot Open in Fairfax, Virginia on Sunday. Among those competing were John Hager at 125, Dan Yetsick and Ian McGehee at 157, Brett Sanderlin at 174, and DJ Spring II at heavyweight.
Freshman John Hager went 2-2 on the day after a thrilling 13-12 first-round win over Jaden Felipe, who wrestled unattached for Navy. Hager came back from deficits of 7-3 and 11-6 with two third-period takedowns and two escapes to win 13-12. His two takedowns came in the final 31 seconds when he trailed 11-6. Hager fell in the round of 16 in a hard-fought 6-4 decision then pinned Rider's Kyle Hill in under a minute during his first consolation match. The Randolph, N.J. native dropped his next match in another close one, 7-6, to Maryland's Thomas Capul.
Senior Dan Yetsick went 2-2 on the day with a forfeit followed by a 12-8 decision in the consolation bracket over Virginia's Mason Stefanelli.

The Wildcats will next set their sights on the team's home opener against the Duke Blue Devils in the Duke Family Performance Hall this coming Friday at 7:00 p.m.
